AH-1W Super Cobra Scale 700 Size Helicopter - (Almost Ready to Fly) ARF from Roban - RBN-AH1-7S
This is the Roban AH-1W Super Cobra Scale 700 ARF. A premium scale kit that offers unparalleled detail. From tip-to-tail the AH-1W body kit displays an accuracy of detail to the real aircraft not normally seen in the RC helicopter hobby.
This almost ready to fly kit comes with a full scale detail cockpit with dashboard, joysticks, rudder pedals, aerials, windshield wipers and more. Full rear cabin interiors are included (not installed). Floor and ceiling details can be crafted so once the interiors are installed you have an impressively scaled cockpit/interior.
These scale kits house the cockpit in precisely the right location and the mechanics are built into the engine compartment just like in the full scale version. The AH-1W really impresses with the highly detailed and accurately scaled down profile.

Roban Scale Helicopters are intended for modelers who have advanced level building skills. Both ARF and KIT product formats require you to install your own electronics (ESC, servos, motor, etc). KIT product formats also require you to install your own helicopter mechanics. Because helicopter mechanics can vary greatly in size and shape, you may be required to modify the fuselage slightly (including cutting, drilling, etc.) to achieve a perfect fit. Roban fuselages are all handmade from fiberglass and therefore may have slight variation in tolerances between body panels, doors, or windows. These variations do not affect flight performance and can be easily adjusted by an experienced builder with proper tools. These precautions are intended for novice builders; an experienced modeler should have no issue achieving perfect results with these premiere scale helicopters kits.

Minimal trimming of the fuselage was required to get the mechanics to fit. I built the 800 Huey and this one is simpler and easier to install the batteries, and electronics. It also did not require any nose weight. The 800 Huey required 2lbs of lead in the nose. I set it up and test flew it on a wood frame first before I installed the fuselage. Once it goes I. The fuselage, all the servos, linkages and flight controller are not accessible. You don't need the 160amp ESC but there is plenty of room for it. I used the castle 120amp Phoenix. My only gripe is that the small tail rotor pushrod was the wrong width. It was 1.5mm and needed to be 2.5mm. It did not fit the ball links. I used a threaded 10" 4-40 rod that I clipped 1/2" off each end to fit. Worked great. My setup is Xnova 4030 470kv motor Castle 120amp HV ESC Promodeler 415 servos on cyclic Promodeler 135 on anti torque Bevarian Demon Axon FBL controller FRSKY X20 Pro radio FRSKY TD10 and TDMX recivers Jeti 3200mah 2S Life RX battery. Head gain and tail gain 30% -2,+9 pitch curve 1200 rpm and 1250 rpm head speed in Castle ESC governor These heli's are heavy. You can not power yourself out of trouble. You need to stay ahead of the power in turns, especially if you go from a headwind to a tailwind. It will drop out of the sky like a rock if you don't add collective in the turn. With that being said, if you can fly a small collective pitch heli, you can fly this. It's more stable with the weight. If you can build and setup a sport helicopter, you can set this up. What a joy to fly. Great kit 10/10 Please message me on instagram if you have any questions Balsadust_Enterprises Maiden flight video https://youtu.be/Kdqxfa0UpNw?si=Yb8__J2N9M8mVKH8 -Matt

At first, I thought the camo colors were off, but then I realized this is a true rendition of the 'Sea Cobra' scheme. My only jeer is that the manual is almost useless as the drawings are for mechanics that aren't what's included, and the photos are barely discernable as to what they depict. So far, most of the guidance I've gotten has been from build threads in the forums. For this price, I think Roban could update their instruction manual.

In my case, some minor sanding was required, where others stated they didn't have to on their kits. I really dislike the fact there's a set screw that holds the horizonal fins in place and there's no mention of it in the manual or diagram in the manual. Flies well and is stable just like the 800 size Huey. (using the same servos, Rx and flight controller).

The main blades are asymetrical (or flat bottom) and spin counter clockwise. The majority of the mechanics are pre-assembled except the tail sections. I pulled everything apart to verify the quality of construction and everything was perfect with loctite an all the screws. I used a Trex 700 motor and HV Align heavy duty servos with a castle speed controller and a Vbar flight controllerand 2x 5200ma batteries. Assembled Im guessing this thing weighs near 20lbs. The tail has a slight wag that i am still working out of it but I literally just flew it for the second time last week so I am still working on it. The helicopter sounds AWESOME in flight with a nice little chop chop chop sound to it with these blades. The lights that come with it are actually very bright and there are more leads to the lighting controller in case you wish to add more. Another good to mention has nothing to do with the model but with Motion RC tech support. They answered my email within an hour and took care of my issue immediately. Here is a link to my first flight: https://youtu.be/yy5QqiSxJtc The Bad: The instructions are absolutely horrible! If you have never built a scale model like this you will be wondering where many of the parts go. There is some cutting of the fiberglass fuselage to fit the mechanics but not much. I wouldnt even say thats actually bad... just something you need to be comfortable with. The main bearings that came in the kit are garbage so I contacted Motion RC (its a known issue they are working w manufacturer to fix) and they sent me a replacement set in a timely manner. The lighting kit was missing a little piece on the green light that holds the bulb in place. I basically just glued the light in without it. There is a little hardware package that comes with the model and there are some leftover pieces that are NOT listed in the instructions nor can I find anywhere on the model they would even go, lol. The screws that hold the landing gear in are garbage so I used my own upgraded hardware. The decals are water decals. These can be tricky if you haven't had any experience with them. Again I wouldnt say this is bad... because they look great when applied... but they can bunch up and you need some patience to work with them. All in all this is a BAD **** model helicopter! I took it to my flight club and was treated like a celebrity, lol! People gathering around to take pics and see it fly. It has an amazing presence in the air. If you can afford it and have some building experience it wont disappoint! Rcchoppertodd

Only 4 stars due to a misdesigned weapons stub wing recess on the port side that was 1/8” too small in circumference & required much time with a Dremel to fit. Starboard side was fine. Also, know that the Cobra’s design of an elevated tail rotor makes mechanics installation more difficult but that is not a kit defect. Paint quality on my camo version was excellent. Overall, a great 700 size Cobra for the experienced modeler.
